From March 22 to 24, Sensei Janet Jiryu Abels will lead a sesshin for members of Still Mind Zendo’s affiliate sangha, Plum Blossom Zendo in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Sensei Janet has been leading the weekend sesshins at Plum Blossom twice per year, in March and September, since 2006, and Sensei Gregory Hosho Abels has also led sesshins for the group. The weekend will take place at Chatham Village Clubhouse in the neighborhood of Mt. Washington.

This year marks the first time that Sensei Janet will be acting as lay preceptor for PBZ members Eileen Narvin and Anne Caffee, who will be receiving jukai (the Precepts) later this year. In addition to the sesshin, Sensei Janet’s visit will include jukai instruction to both members and a first look at their rakusus, the garment worn at the official jukai ceremony. PBZ member Beverly Griebling has been leading the two members in their hand work at weekly sewing sessions since the beginning of March.
